These files correspond to quicktime animations used to illustrate the simulation of auroral dynamics. More details about these simulations can be found in the paper "Simulating the Dynamics of Auroral Phenomena" by Baranoski, Wan, Rokne and Bell (ACM Transactions on Graphics). Simulations: -band.qt: illustrate the motions and shape changes of an auroral rayed band (duration 10s). -surgeS.qt: illustrates the formation of an auroral surge in the Southern hemisphere (duration 20s). -surgeS.qt: the same, but 2x the speed (duration 10s). -surgeN.qt: illustrates the formation of an auroral surge in Northern hemisphere (2x the speed, duration 10s). These simulation are better viewed on a true color monitor. Also, the "smoothness" of the animations may be affected by low the quality of the computational resources (low memory and/or slow processor). So, make sure that the quicktime animations are run on a machine with enough memory and processing power in order to avoid undesirable "jumps".
